Mic’d Up is a short film we’re currently in the middle of shooting — a project that’s been brewing for a while and finally coming to life.
It’s told entirely through POV, following two very different characters: a travel vlogger (played by me) filming a trip overseas, and a local thief who sees an opportunity when the vlogger leaves his camera unattended. What starts as a petty theft turns into something much deeper — a story about perspective, privilege, and what that camera really captures.
The idea came from thinking about how easy it is to chase content without really noticing what’s happening around you. As a creator, I’m always filming, always documenting — but who’s watching me? And what would happen if that camera ended up in someone else’s hands?
We’re filming the vlogger scenes here in New Zealand, and my bro Troy is handling the thief’s POV over in Iligan City, Philippines. We’re using gear like the DJI Pocket 3 and Sony ZV-1F to keep things raw, tight, and personal — like you’re right there in the moment. We’ve also got access to some older footage from the Philippines that we might weave into the final cut.
This isn’t a polished travel video. It’s gritty, emotional, and stripped back. No voiceovers. No exposition. Just raw moments from two very different lives, intersecting through a stolen camera — and what that mic picks up when no one’s listening.
Mic’d Up is still in the works, but I can’t wait to share more as we piece it together. Stay tuned.
